This is because I am stupid.  I have been emailing from pix that are on my hard drive.  Even though I was on AOL when I was emailing the pix, it would only send thru MSN. I cancelled MSN today and now when I wanted to email pix i am told I need to go into my email icon on the control panel and set up a profile, that I have no profile.  I don't get it. I am sending and receiving email on AOL. Why did cancelling MSN cause this?  Thanks

One thing that I have found is that you can get rid of a lot of computer problems by not using Internet Explorer and Outlook Express.  Using a browser like Firefox and an email program like Thunderbird will stop a lot of these problems.

Pesoto, my grandson bought a used computer from a friend.  The mouse doesn't work.  Someone told him he needed a new mouse and the install disc.  He bought one but he can't click on the agreement to get the mouse installed.....What can he do?

If the mouse doesn't work he still should be able to use the keyboard to move around.  He can use the arrow keys to get to the button he needs and then hit enter.

GA he has probably already done this: at work when we install a new keyboard or a new mouse, we have to shut down the computer and restart and then the new appliance will work.

I have a friend who works with a company that provides digital internet connections.  She told me that some of the problems people are having with their connections is caused by the west coast rain and other disasters.  How about it Pesoto, is that possible?

I'm not really an expert on the subject other than to say that I guess it is possible.

I have had Charter Internet for over a year and not a problem until the past month or so.  For no apparent reason the internet will just disappear in the middle of the day.  Yesterday I got a letter from Charter saying they are increasing their monthly rate by $5.84.  I am in the process of drafting a letter to them about how their service has gone down and the price is going up......

This afternoon at a little after 2PM the internet went off again.  When you call to report a problem you get an automated service rep.  After she goes through her spiel and talks to you like a 1st grader you are then put on hold for sometimes as long as 15 minutes in order to speak to a real person.

For all this I pay an outrageous price......Am I wrong to expect GOOD service?

I've been having the same problem with Charter.  I am waiting for a package from our phone company and may just do the DSL instead if the savings is significant.  We also got the increase and the service sucks.  I don't think you are wrong to expect good service.

My only concern is I don't know if there's any difference in the quality of the phone DSL vs cable.

I am going to try the phone DSL.  Charter cable is going 'way up, I don't have the internet on cable, and our tv service is not as good as it was a year ago.  Movie selection is smaller too.

I have friends with DSL.   I think I will call and see how much they pay vs what I pay through cable.  I have an extra phone line from when I had dial up.  I am sure not happy with Charter lately.

I think DSL has promotional 'start up' prices for three months around $16.99 a month. Then it goes up $5-7 a month I think.  They have packages with TV, internet, phone services at pretty low prices.

One advantage that DSL has is that your download speeds should remain constant.  With cable you share your bandwidth so that if more people are online things will slow down.

What should I be?

I've been on dial up ever since I went online years ago. I can't work any faster than my computer does and have never seen the need to go high speed. I'm abe to get online when I want and do what I want. Guess it's because I do computer maintenance daily which only takes a few minutes at most so my pc keeps on truckin.
