I realize we've been posting everything Gay oriented in the other thread, Growing Up Gay In America. So to continue the educational process I've started this thread. There are aspects to being Gay in the rest of the world that are much different than here in America. I will begin with a Christmas video of a "Kiss-in against homophobia" in the main shopping district in Paris.

Malawi arrests first homosexual couple to wed

Malawi police have arrested and charged two homosexual men with "gross indecency" after the couple wed in the country's first same-sex public marriage ceremony over the weekend.

Davie Chingwalu, a police spokesman, told AFP the two men would "appear in court soon to answer charges of gross indecency". He added that police were still investigating the incident.

Tiwonge Chimbalanga and Steven Monjeza were married in a traditional ceremony in southern Malawi on Saturday, attracting hundreds of curious onlookers.

Malawi's penal code outlaws homosexuality and sodomy, which is punishable by a maximum of 14 years in jail.

All this repugnant behavior in Africa is being fueled by Right Wing Christians in the US!

Kenyan police raid 'gay wedding' and arrest five men

Police in Mtwapa, just north of the Kenyan coastal town of Mombasa, say they have arrested five men whom they accuse of being homosexuals.

District officer George Matandura said two of the men had been found with wedding rings, attempting to get married, in Kikambala beach resort.

The other three men were handed to the police by members of the public; two of them had reportedly been beaten.

Homosexuality is illegal in Kenya but arrests are extremely rare.
Crowds gathered outside the police station where the men were taken in protest at the presence of alleged homosexuals.

The wedding was reportedly due to take place at a private villa in the resort, but locals heard of the plans and alerted the police, who raided a house and arrested the men.

'Repugnant' behaviour

"We are grateful to the public for alerting the police. They should continue co-operating with the police to arrest more," Mr Matundura said.

"It is an offence, an unnatural offence, and also their behaviour is repugnant to the morality of the people."

The district officer said the five, aged between 20 and 35, would "undergo a medical examination before we charge them with homosexuality," the AFP news agency reported.

"We will move swiftly and close down bars which condone gays, lesbians, prostitution and drug abuse in their premises," Mr Matundura added.
A member of a Kenyan gay rights organisation condemned the arrests and said it had appealed to the Human Rights Commission to step in.
But the marriage allegedly planned was condemned by Muslim and Christian clerics.

"We cannot allow these young boys to ruin their future through homosexuality," Sheikh Ali Hussein of the Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya told AFP.

14 years at hard labor for loving someone! This is a leftover from Colonial British Rule. Let's here it for the Christians and their very very un-Jesus ways all over the world!

Gay couple sentenced to maximum 14 years in Malawi

BLANTYRE, Malawi – A judge sentenced a couple to the maximum 14 years in prison with hard labor under Malawi's anti-gay legislation, and crowds jeered the two men as they were driven from the court house to jail Thursday.

The harsh sentence for unnatural acts and gross indecency had been expected after the same judge convicted Tiwonge Chimbalanga and Steven Monjeza earlier this week under laws dating from the colonial era. The case has drawn international condemnation, and sparked a debate on human rights in this conservative southern African country.

Chimbalanga, a 20-year-old hotel janitor, and his unemployed partner were arrested Dec. 27, the day after they celebrated their engagement with a party at the hotel where Chimbalanga worked — an apparent first in Malawi.

"Maximum sentences are intended for use for worst cases," Magistrate Nyakwawa Usiwa Usiwa said as he delivered his sentence. "We are sitting here to represent the Malawi society which I do not believe is ready at this point in time to see its sons getting married to other sons or conducting engagement ceremonies."

The lawyer for the two, Mauya Msuku, said they would appeal.

Chimbalanga remained composed as armed police officers handcuffed him to Monjeza.

"I am not worried," he told reporters as they were taken to a police vehicle.

Monjeza broke down upon hearing the ruling and was still sobbing as he was helped into the van.

Hundreds of onlookers inside and outside the court house showed little sympathy. There were shouts of "You got what you deserve!" and "Fourteen years is not enough, they should get 50!"

Michelle Kagari, deputy Africa director of Amnesty International called the sentence "an outrage."

Her rights watchdog has adopted Chimbalanga and Monjeza as prisoners of conscience, and would "continue to campaign on this matter and to work tirelessly to see that they are released unconditionally as soon as possible," Kagari told The Associated Press by telephone from her office in Kampala, Uganda.

That should probably read............Let's here it for the very un-Jesus Christians all over the world!  Lumping all Christian's into that statement isn't fair because all Christians aren't un-Jesus.

It's sad that things like this still happen.  Any real Christian who reads that story will be praying for those two, not condemning them!  God made us all and God doesn't make mistakes.

I understand your point and I didn't say ALL Christians. But the Bible they quote, and the passages they choose come from the Christian religion. It is the book that is flawed. Until Christians admit it is not the word of God, but the word of men, then this will continue. There is always debate about people choosing the passages they want. How about deleting the evil ones entirely? Every act of violence in my life, every act of hatred has been born out of a book that some call "The Good Book." I don't see it that way. As I write this, the Catholic Church is perverting the minds of third world nations like those in Africa, to boost their membership, because as other nations become more educated they reject this kind of insanity and prejudice. I have to ask the question, how many wars have been fought in the name of religion? How many people have been killed because of "The Good Book?"

My point is this. The Bible advocates evil violent things. It's not about interpretation. It actually says evil things. It condones slavery and condones chopping up babies and pregnant women, among other things.

Example:

Exodus 21:1-11 (King James Version)

Exodus 21

1 Now these are the judgments which thou shalt set before them.

2 If thou buy an Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing.

3 If he came in by himself, he shall go out by himself: if he were married, then his wife shall go out with him.

4 If his master have given him a wife, and she have born him sons or daughters; the wife and her children shall be her master's, and he shall go out by himself.

5 And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free:

6 Then his master shall bring him unto the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or unto the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an aul; and he shall serve him for ever.

Hosea 13:16 (King James Version)

16 Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.

Your talking Old Testament.................... .....before Jesus came, after Jesus came:

“You also died to the law through the body of Christ.... By dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code” (Rom. 7:4, 6).

Yes, I understand that. But those who use the Old Testament as "the word of God" are not misinterpreting the words.
