The governor of New York had sex! My opinion: who the #$%& cares?

The message to the American public is this:
It’s OK to invade sovereign countries! It’s OK to steal everything from the US treasury! It’s OK to torture! It’s OK to allow unregulated corporations to bring the whole world to the brink of extinction! It’s OK to allow corporations to buy up all the media in order to censor truth and spew out endless propaganda! It’s OK for the Republican government to fire federal judges investigating Republican corruption that actually affects the citizens of the US! It’s OK to draft laws that outsource American jobs to cheaper labor markets!

But don’t have sex!

The outrage and condemnation from the Right and Republicans and I’m sure some Democrats is outrageous to me! Where is this outrage when hundreds of thousands of people die needlessly because of our policies?

This man went after the real crooks on Wall Street! He went after organized crime! Yes, oh yes, and some will say why did he do this? I still say who cares? Leave him alone! It’s none of our business, except that we have laws that conveniently allow Republicans to go after Democrats for things that should be personal and none of our business. Things that have absolutely no impact on our lives! And meanwhile, the whole world goes to Hell because the real criminals in America are above the law.

So sit back now and watch the Republican spin machine and Carl Rove make this the issue of the Presidential campaign! And make no mistake, this is the first example of how to use the unregulated power of the Executive branch to wiretap and spy on American citizens!

I am constantly ashamed to be an American. Those horrible Europeans, (you know, the ones who have healthcare), would never put up with this %&^$!

Yep.............in this country to start a scandal all they have to do is attack someones sex life which to me is nobody's business but the people involved.  Don't ever consider the good the person has done because one sexual mistake erases a myriad of good deeds.  I guess that is why no one has bothered to investigate Bush's sex life.....he hasn't done any good deeds........................ ... grin

This governor of NY, Elliot Spitzer is not being held in contempt because he used a prostitute for sex, it's that he is a hypocrite of the worst kind. You can't stand up and tell other people how to live their lives and then turn around and do that very thing that you condemn....and this is what he did. He thought he was above the law that he helped make.

quote: Yesterday’s exploding story of New York Governor Elliot Spitzer’s alleged involvement in a prostitution ring is but the latest example of this sexual hypocrisy. Governor Spitzer has been known as “Mr. Clean” having prosecuted many prostitution rings when he served as Attorney General for the State of New York. source: thelandreport.com

I don't feel sorry for him.

The news here just reported that he was resigning and that he had spent as much as $80,000 repeatedly using high priced prostitutes.  I understand what you are saying about his being a hypocrite, most politicians are........and most think they are above the law... wink  I don't feel sorry for him either.

Having said that, it is widely known in these parts that if you ever want to get rid of a CEO or someone at the top,........just dig up something sexual.....that will work.  Sometimes it can just be made up and it will work............... rolleyes

I don't feel sorry for him either. But in the realm of hypocrites the whole country is guilty. What I still have a problem with is that sex gets someone out immediately, while other more serious crimes that affect us all go unpunished. What if all the other things I mentioned above were given the same attention? What if sex was treated differently, without the Puritanical attitude that drives it underground and makes blackmail and entrapment possible?

For me as a Gay man, it all seems so familiar. Everyone immediately gets all involved and emotional and judgmental about sex, while they turn their backs on suffering and pain, murder and theft, war and poverty, just like the good Germans.

I agree completely with what you and GA are saying, there are much more serious crimes that our corrupt politicians are getting away with all the time. The media seems to be going out of their way to bury him, which means there is much more to this story than we know about. Spitzer was doing some good things in NY and he ticked off a lot of the wall street elite. That's what is so maddening...he should have known better...and if he would have lived by the ideals that he espoused this never would have happened to him. It's really pretty sad...but there's got to be more to it.

The media lives for things like this. Imagine if they had good investigative journalists who had the moral certitude to investigate and report the things that just might save the world! I also believe that people get titillated by these scandals, because they secretly wish their lives were as exciting. Sex can be a good thing, but we make it "dirty" and then wonder why people hide, then get caught. This is human nature. We put unattainable rules out there and expect people to turn off their emotions and become the living dead.

I am a man. Men do these things. What's wrong is that we require men to lie. I watch as the religious right fight for the so called "sanctity of marriage" between a man and a woman. How many secrets are there out there waiting to be exposed? There are no boundaries to privacy anymore. That's what worries me. It's nobody's business but the people involved. The truth is, many people would be just as upset if the married couple had an open relationship where they were allowed to be sexual with others. Our so called Judeo-Christian values demand that everyone live by the same repressive rules, or be judged! The reason this is such a big issue is because of the repressive sexual nature of our society. If you don't believe me, go to Amsterdam.

We do have good investigative journalists, the problem is they tend to get their stories pulled or they get fired and we never hear from them again. If you haven't seen this video it's a good one to watch. You'll never see this on the MSM for obvious reasons. OUTFOXED : Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism 1 hr 17 min 41 sec

I've been digging around on this so called sex scandal with Eliot Spitzer. It's getting more interesting. Seems that Governor Spitzer had just begun a new investigation into Larry Silverstein, the owner of the World Trade Center that was brought down in the 9-11 attacks. Somebody wanted Spitzer put out to pasture. This whole thing is being hyped in the media to the point where it's becoming ridiculous. The real crime is being covered up. I'm just not sure what that is....yet.  grin

You are so right. And what happens when journalism becomes yellow: the truth gets obscured by vague references to things that only seem to support a preconceived notion.

Married man with prostitute = wrong in that kind of world. We tend to look at the "poor" wife and make judgments without even caring to hear both sides of the story or question what in our society makes this situation necessary. What I continually observe as a man is that sexist attitudes toward men are acceptable, and political correctness in relation to women sometimes stifles truth and deeper questioning. It is simple not true that the man is always wrong and the woman is always the victim, as these superficial stories imply. Sensational stories thrive on superficiality.

The truth is: somewhere between 40% and 50% of marriages in the US end in divorce. Because of the secretive nature of extramarital relationships, studies admit their findings are conservative, but the best studies have concluded that somewhere near 50% of women and nearly 60% of men have extramarital relationships at some point.

With these facts, it is my opinion that these matters are best left to the people involved in the relationships. The rest of us should mind our own business. But this will not happen, because the sensational nature of this story is being used to cover up something bigger and more important.

I agree that a person's sex life if nobody's business.  I do agree with DejaVu that this guy was a hypocrite.  I don't understand why people who are in the public eye do things like this in the first place.  How stupid can they be?  Do they think they won't get caught and raked over the coals?  I don't buy the argument that men will be men either.  If you hold a public office, you better be as squeaky clean as you can be.
