I was thinking how most of what is posted here are links to news stories. I have no problem with that. But I thought it might be nice to have a separate thread where links are discouraged and personal opinions are encouraged. Here it is, the place to post how you feel about what's happening in the world around you! Your own personal news column. (Really)

Let the courteous Briarpatch style dialog begin!

When I'm home in San Francisco I never watch television unless it's a planned viewing of something on PBS. I find even CNN to be terribly biased and censored compared with countries where news is separated from entertainment and corporate interests. Traveling for the last two weeks has been an eye opener. I get angry when I see polls that pretend to know where voters heads will be in November.

From my perspective, too much attention is put on foretelling the future, on personalities and on entertaining the viewers. The function of news should be to report what's happening in an unbiased overview that lets the viewer draw the conclusions. There is nothing fair or unbiased about our media!

The campaigns are focused on acting out what the candidates think the viewers want to hear. The viewers think they want to hear what the corporate talking heads have told them they want. The acting by candidates is motivated by the money that buys the elections. Candidates are not afraid to upset voters, they are afraid to upset corporations with unlimited funds to use against them in advertising campaigns, like tobacco companies, insurance companies, oil companies, pharmaceutical companies, chemical companies and on and on.

What if we were focused on compassion, fairness and justice? Is a system that consistently changes the will of the voters, with court rulings, limited debates, electoral colleges, super delegates, limited access to media and unverifiable vote counts really the example for the rest of the world? Election campaigns in real civilized countries are educational processes that give the voters something to think about. Ours is a contest to see which candidate and party can pull the wool over the biggest number of voter's eyes. In the last 8 years we have seen what a real corporate run government looks like. It is no less dangerous and no less destructive to the average voter than a state run by fanatical religious zealots!

The single most important thing to save the US system of government is to take money out of politics! Truth, or the twisting of it, should not be sold to the highest bidder!

This morning I am confined to bed. I am unsure exactly what triggered my respiratory problems this time, but it was very scary through the night. I slept from 4 pm to 6:30 am, but woke up with extreme tightness in my chest and coughing up stuff from my lungs. It doesn't help that everywhere I go I have to deal with totally unnecessary artificial chemical scents! When I checked out a Holiday Inn that was too toxic, the manager admitted to me that the chain had made a deal with a chemical company to subliminally identify the chain with it's own scent which happens to be toxic. There are no regulations for chemical air scents. They can use anything they please without testing the dangers to humans! They are selling electric machines that continually spray scents into public spaces every few minutes without your knowledge!

A few weeks ago I read a serious scientific report in a textile journal, where researchers discussed what they termed "fiber innovation technology" where they created "scent infused fabrics" to "enhance the consumer's experience!" The problem they spoke of was how to make the scent last longer! The technique of making scents last longer is created with highly toxic cancer causing substances because organic scents don't last! They do this research with no thought of how they are affecting the environment or the lives of people who come in contact with their invention. WHY? Because they don't have to!

In todays San Francisco Chronicle is an article about how the California Agricultural Department will begin spraying large urban areas, including San Francisco, with a pesticide that will eradicate the light brown apple moth that is a potential threat to crops. They have never sprayed urban areas before, but will do it with the blessing of the Bush EPA! And the people who have been affected with a multitude of health problems in places where it has been used, are brushed aside as "too sensitive" or some other blame the victim terminology!

Everyone who sits on their butt, thinking this is not their problem, does it at their own peril. The first step is to question everything. Just because it is sold legally doesn't mean it isn't going to kill you.

My friend Paul, the Buddhist Priest reminded me last week of this: 2500 years ago the Buddha named the three poisons:  1. Greed, 2. Hate 3. Delusion. It's hard to argue when you dig down to the source of all our problems!

Note:
All food, supplement and drug products are required by law to list all ingredients. The chemical lobby has insisted that their so called "trade secrets" are more important than the publics right to know exactly what they are being exposed to. More often than not, when ingredients are mandated to be released by court order in litigation, surprise! they were hiding the harmful effects of their product!

Today Bush claims we are not in a recession! He seems to be the only one who believes this! Wait until the stimulus package works, he proclaims.

And the Republican heir to the Bush throne, John McCain, claims the Iraq surge is working! Remember the moment when Bush claimed the War is Over? Want more of the same BS, vote for McCain. The power of illusion. Make things really, really bad, then when they go from really really bad, to really bad, claim victory! Oh yes! And how much is this illegal war costing us per day? But let's forget that we should never have gone to Iraq in the first place. Let's just accept that people like Bush and Cheney never have to pay for their crimes.  But the news today is that 1 in every 100 Americans is in prison. Oh my! Sounds like Nazi Germany again!

1. Aggressive war is the supreme international crime
2. The Bush administration committed that crime with the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

My husband is a WW II veteran. He was a guard at the Nuremberg Trials.
This is a good article. Read it carefully and think about what it says because it's truth is screaming out to be heard.

Nazi Germany...yes...that's exactly what it sounds like. The more I read about it the more I see the same thing is happening here. There are so many parallels. It would be interesting to see all the parallels in black and white. I'm sure there is something about it on the internet. I'll see what I can find.

Putin draws parallels between U.S. and Nazi Germany

This article certainly illustrates Putin's true feelings about the US and I believe the situation with Russia is becoming very serious.

Like I have said before....................... .we have become the terrorists we fear so much.... undecided

Never in our history has there been so much disdain for the US.  We were always looked up to and admired.  Thanks to Bush, we have lost our standing in the world.  His arrogance outweighs any I have ever seen in the worst of leaders.

I saw Bush on TV yesterday. I can hardly stand to watch him, he disgusts me so much! He's so arrogant but his stupidity shines through like beacon on the darkest night. He's not the brain behind what is going on...he's just a willing puppet.

And like everything with this administration, lost opportunities. The interests of the American people don't matter, the interests of the world community don't matter, the interests of the global economy don't matter, the interests of the environment don't matter, the interests of world peace don't matter. All that matters is what's inside the perverted head of G.W. Bush! He honestly thinks he's right and everyone else is wrong. That's the foundation for a fascist dictator.

I personally do not think Georgie Bush is smart enough to be that evil. My take on it, is that he thinks he's right because he has people whispering in his ears telling him that he's right and building up his ego and pulling his strings. He's a happy little puppet man.
