Hey...this is a very good idea!!  I got this in an email from a friend yesterday.  I thought I posted it before but couldn't find it.

We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory but nobody, other than ourselves, knows which of these numbers belong to our closest family or friends.

If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency?  Hence this 'ICE' (In Case of Emergency) Campaign

The concept of 'ICE' is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations.  As cell phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name 'ICE' ( In Case Of Emergency).

The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn't know which number to call.  He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name for this purpose.  In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as 'ICE.'

For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc.  A great idea that will make a difference!

Let's spread the concept of ICE by storing an ICE number in our Mobile phones today!

Please forward this. It won't take too many 'forwards' before everybody will know about this It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest .

ICE will speak for you when you are not able to.

GA - I'm so glad to see you post this where it will reach many people.
I heard of this via email, news, or ? ... and I added this to my cell phone.  I always said I would never have a cell but my gr.dau thought it was a good idea just in case I had car trouble, wreck, or whatever. She added me to her plan for only $10. mo.  For that price .. I thought it may be a good security idea.
I have my kid's full names and numbers .. but I also added them as "ICE - first name" so emergency personnel would have a name to go with number they were contacting.  They can also scroll down and see their full name if it were necessary to look up address.

Thanks again for posting this .. keep spreading the word !!

Subject: Names in cell phone...Good info to pass on

Worth reading and consideration

Names in Cell Phones  - Something to think about & maybe make a change?Huh?!!!!!

Be careful how you list names on your cell phone! This lady has changed her habit of how she lists her names on her mobile phone after her handbag was stolen.

Her handbag which contained her mobile, credit card, purse...etc.... was stolen. Twenty minutes later when she called her husband from a pay phone telling him what had happened, hubby says 'I've just received your text asking about our pin number and I've replied a little while ago.'

When they rushed down to the bank, the bank staff told them all the money was already withdrawn. The pickpocket had actually used the stolen hand phone to text 'hubby' in the contact list, and got hold of the pin number. Within 20 minutes he had withdrawn all the money from the bank account.

THE MORAL OF THE LESSON: Don't disclose the relationship between you and the people in your contact list. Avoid using names like: Home, Honey, Hubby, Sweetheart, Dad, Mom, etc. And, very importantly, when sensitive information is being asked through texts, CONFIRM by calling back.  Also, when you're being text messaged by friends, or family, to meet them somewhere, be sure to call back to confirm that the message came from them. If you don't reach them, be very careful about going to a place to meet 'family and friends' who text you.

Here's a number worth putting in your cell phone, or your home phone speed dial:  1-800-goog-411.

This is a good service from Google, and it's free -- great when you are on the road.

Don't waste your money on information calls, and don't waste your time manually dialing the number.

I am driving along in my car and I need to call the Chinese Restaurant and I don't know the number.  I hit the speed dial for 1 800 goog-411.  The voice at the other end says, "City & State."  I say, "Washington, DC ."  He says, "Business, Name or Type of Service."  I say, China King Restaurant."  He says, "Connecting" and China King=2 0answers the phone.
Sweet !

This is nationwide and it is a free service.

Click on the link below and watch the short clip for a quick demo.
