I'm new on here and was considering making this my new home and wanted to ask the users on this site for some help.  I have been visiting different forums around Danville and have found that there seems to be a different feel and flavor to each.  I would appreciate your feedback on what the good and the bad of different forums.

So far I have registered on AAD, onlinedanville, enjoydanville, CN, topix, and danvilledemolition.  Which ones do you guys like and why?

Welcome demolition. We try not to get into discussions of the merits of other forums here.  Probably the best thing is to try them all out.  I imagine that out of the many Danville oriented forums that now exist you will find one that you will enjoy.

My thoughts exactly Pesoto.  Everyone looks at things differently so it's best to form your own opinions.

Most of us on here were either born and raised in Danville or lived there at one time.  We no longer live there now so there is not much discussion about Danville, other than our memories.

Maybe we SHOULD talk about this forum...........maybe we should try to find out why very few members are participating.

I agree that we shouldn't get into discussions about specific forums, but I think that speaking in general terms is OK.  For instance, if you like the controversy, you might pick one that has a lot of that kind of discussion.  If you like the "no holes barred" type of place, I'm sure you will find one among those you picked where you can use profanity if that's what you want or say outrageous things just to get someone else upset.

The Briarpatch is meant to be a place to discuss things intelligently and respectfully.  However, having said that.......it appears to me that that's not the kind of discussion people want.  I think some people actually "get off" on attacking others and are not able to talk about things without violating rules.  We adhere to the quote from Bingo at the top of the page, that is first and foremost in our "rules".

We started out as a sanctuary from the Jerry Springer kind of forum to someplace more peaceful............
Now, it's become a little too peaceful.  Just my opinion...... wink

I think you are right Butterfly about it being too quiet here.  It seems we have lost a lot of our active members and not many new people have come in.  I think that maybe some of our technical problems lately have not helped although I don't think that is the whole issue.  Maybe we have just gotten too boring.  I do notice that posting always seems to go up here and other forums when there is some controversy going on. I do believe that you are right that this is an issue that needs to be discussed.  Probably it might not be a bad idea when the site is more reliable to contact some of the people who don't post anymore and try to find out if there is something that we could do to make the Briarpatch more appealing to them.

You are right about the technical problems maybe having something to do with the lack of posting.  It's a pain to have to deal with just trying to get something posted, especially for those who may not have the time to mess with it.  I remember Angel saying she had major problems and I don't know if anyone was able to help her get them solved. I wondered if everyone was notified by e-mail when the sites were switched?

I'm not suggesting we allow things to deteriorate here in order to get more participation.  We should remain a place where people can come and feel safe and have fun, but you're right about maybe we've become boring.  Boring is not bad if the alternative is endless stalking, badgering, etc.

Thanks for your comments.  It's cool to see that there are some decent people out there.  I'm trying to stay away from the bash each other into the ground forums.

At least it looks like the site is working okay now.  At least I haven't had any problems for a while.  If anyone does have some problems yet let me know.  I hope things keep on working well.  I wasn't looking forward to moving the site again.

I had an email Friday from the 3rd person I contacted last week.  The other two had already responded and appeared to do whatever was needed to cause the site to run better.  I saw that person had signed on as hostmonster and was trying to trouble shoot.  I think he was a day short and a dollar late but better late than never.
