First Steps: Work from home, lose your money

It’s 5:30 on a Wednesday night. You sit bumper-to-bumper - yet again - on the way home from work. Suddenly, the infomercial you watched in a fit of insomnia the night before begins to replay in your head.

Work from home, the TV promised. Make tens of thousands of dollars a month, it promised.

Before quitting your real job, you need to know two things about virtually all of the work-from-home opportunities advertised on TV, the Web, newspaper classifieds and Craigslist.

A) The vast majority of people who sign up for these programs will lose money.

B) See A.

Hint 1:

Apple Cider Vinegar can be used as a dandruff-stopper. Rinsing
your hair with apple cider vinegar can help keep dandruff away.

Hint 2:

Next time you have to rip off a band-aid try rubbing a little
bit of hair conditioner around the edges before removing. It
will peel away painlessly.

Hint 3:

To remove rust from chrome, wipe it with aluminum foil
dipped in Coca Cola. To polish chrome, use a crumbled up
piece of aluminum foil and rub.

Hint 4:

Here's a great tip for you guys. Never lose a button again
by painting a drop of clear nail polish over the top of the
button's thread. It will adhere and keep the button from
falling off. How great is that?

Hint 5:

Another hint for onion smell on hands, is to place fingers
on stainless steel knife blade a run under cold water for
30 secs. or so.

Hint 6:

Pour 1/2-cup vinegar in an ice cube tray. Fill the remainder
with water and freeze. Once a week, grind the whole tray of
"vinegar cubes" down the garbage disposal. The ice will
sharpen the blades and the vinegar will clean and disinfect
the disposal.

Hint 7:

To kill weeds in your yard, use vinegar instead of weed
killer.  It works great. Just pour it on and the weed is
usually dead withing 24 hours.

Hint 8:

Tired of retying your shoelaces? Spritz the tied laces
with water and they'll stay tied longer.

A friend sent me this tip.  I thought it was worth passing on....

Mosquito spray.....

I was at a outdoor party awhile back, and the bugs were having a ball biting everyone. A man at the party sprayed the lawn and deck floor with Listerine antiseptic mouth wash, and the little demons disappeared.

The next year I filled a 4-ounce spray bottle and used it around my seat whenever I saw mosquitoes. And voila! That worked as well. It worked at a picnic where we sprayed the area around the food table, the children's swing area, and the standing water nearby.
During the summer, I don't leave home without it.....Pass it on.
------------------
OUR FRIEND'S COMMENTS:
I tried this on my deck and around all of my doors. It works - in fact, it killed them instantly. I bought my bottle from Target and it cost me $1.89. It really doesn't take much, and it is a big bottle, too; so it  is not as expensive to use as the can of spray you buy that doesn't last 30 minutes. So, try this, please. It will last a couple of days. Don' t spray directly on a wood door (like your front door), but spray around the frame. Spray around the window frames, and even inside the dog house.

Who ever looks at the end of your aluminum foil box?

I've been using aluminum foil for more years than I care to remember.

Great stuff, but sometimes it can be a pain.  You know, like when
you are in the middle of doing something and you try to pull some
foil out and the roll comes out of the box.

Well, right there on the end of the box is a tab to lock the roll in
place.  Written on the end it says, "Press here to lock end".

How long has this little locking tab been there?

Saran wrap and Glad Wrap has one too!  I can't count the number of
times the Saran wrap roll has jumped out when I was trying to cover
something up.

I'm sharing this with all my friends.  If you already know this,
don't make me feel dumber than I already feel.

Peel a banana from the bottom and you won't have to pick the little "stringy things" off of it.  That's how the primates do it.
Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store.
If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen faster.

Store your opened chunks of cheese in aluminum foil.  It will stay fresh much longer and not mold!

Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating. Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking.  Add a teaspoon of water when frying ground beef. It will help pull the grease away from the meat while cooking.

To really make scrambled eggs or omelets rich add a couple of spoonfuls of sour cream, cream cheese, or heavy cream in and then beat them up.

For a cool brownie treat, make brownies as directed. Melt Andes mints in double broiler and pour over warm brownie  Let set for a wonderful minty frosting.

Add garlic immediately to a recipe if you want a light taste of garlic and  at the end of the recipe if your want a stronger taste of garlic.

Leftover snickers bars from Halloween make a delicious dessert.
Simply chop them up with the food chopper. Peel, core and slice a few apples. Place them in a baking dish and sprinkle the chopped candy bars over the apples. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes!!!  Serve alone or with vanilla ice cream. Yummm!

Reheat Pizza

Heat up leftover pizza in a nonstick skillet on top of the stove, set heat to med-low and heat till warm.
This keeps the crust crispy. No soggy micro pizza. I saw this on the cooking channel and it really works.

Easy Deviled Eggs

Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal, mash till they are all broken up. Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up mixing thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy, squeeze mixture into egg. Just throw bag away when done easy clean up.

Expanding Frosting

When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes. You can double it in size. You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat less sugar and calories per serving.

Reheating refrigerated bread

To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster.

Newspaper weeds away

Start putting in your plants, work the nutrients in your soil. Wet newspapers, put layers around the plants overlapping as you go cover with mulch and forget about weeds. Weeds will get through some gardening plastic they will not get through wet newspapers.

Broken Glass

Use a wet cotton ball or Q-tip to pick up the small shards of glass you can't see easily.

No More Mosquitoes

Place a dryer sheet in your pocket.  It will keep the mosquitoes away.

Squirrel Away!

To keep squirrels from eating your plants, sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper.
The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the plant and the squirrels won't come near it.

Flexible vacuum

To get something out of a heat register or under the fridge add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum. It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings.

Reducing Static Cling

Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip and you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and ... ta da! ... static is gone.

Measuring Cups

Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don't dry cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out.

Foggy Windshield?

Hate foggy windshields? Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your car . When the window s fog, rub with the eraser! Works better than a cloth!

Reopening envelope

If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to include something inside, just place your sealed envelope in the freezer for an hour or two. Viola! It unseals easily.

Conditioner

Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It's cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It's also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn't like when you tried it in your hair.

Goodbye Fruit Flies

To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass, fill it 1/2" with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid; mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!

Get Rid of Ants

Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it "home," can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works and you don't have the worry about pets or small children being harmed!

INFO ABOUT CLOTHES DRYERS

The heating unit went out on my dryer! The gentleman that fixes things around the house for us told us that he wanted to show us something and he went over to the dryer and pulled out the lint filter. It was clean. (I always clean the lint from the filter after every load clothes.) He told us that he wanted to show us something; he took the filter over to the sink and ran hot water over it. The lint filter is made of a  mesh material ... I'm sure you know what your dryer's lint filter looks like. Well ... the hot water just sat on top of the mesh! It didn't go through it at all! He told us that dryer sheets cause a film over that mesh that's what burns out the heating unit. You can't SEE the film, but it's there. It's what is in the dryer sheets to make your clothes soft and static free ... that nice fragrance too. You know how they can feel waxy when you take them out of the box .. well this stuff builds up on your clothes and on your lint screen. This is also what causes dryer units to potentially burn your house down with it! He said the best way to keep your dryer working for a very long time (and to keep your electric bill lower) is to take that filter out and wash it with hot soapy water and an old toothbrush (or other brush) at l east e very six months. He said that makes the life of the dryer at least twice as long! How about that!?! Learn something new everyday! I certainly didn't know dryer sheets would do that. So, I thought I'd share!

Note: I went to my dryer and tested my screen by running water on it. The water ran through a little bit but mostly collected all the water in the mesh screen. I washed it with warm soapy water and a nylon brush and I had it done in 30 seconds. Then when I rinsed it ... the water ran right thru the screen! There wasn't any puddling at all! That repairman knew what he was talking about!

WHO KNEW THIS???

I have been driving for over 50 years... I would think I should have noticed the little secret on my dashboard that was staring me in the face the whole time...I didn't...and I bet you didn't either...

Have you ever rented or borrowed a car and when arriving at the gas station wondered...mmm, which side is the gas filler cap?
My normal solution was to stick my head out the window, strain my neck and look, try to see in the side mirrors or even get out of the car!  Well ladies and gentlemen, I'm going to share with you my little secret so you will no longer look like Ace Ventura on your way to the gas station or put your neck at risk of discomfort or injury.

If you look at your gas gauge, you will see a small icon of a gas pump?  The handle of the gas pump will extend out on either the left or right side of the gas pump?  If your tank is on the left, the handle will be on the left?  If your tank is on the right, the handle will be on the right.  It is that simple!

COFFEE FILTERS

Coffee filters ..who knew! And you can buy 1,000 at the Dollar Tree for guess what?

1. Cover bowls or dishes when cooking in the microwave.
Coffee filters make excellent covers.

2. Clean windows and mirrors. Coffee filters are lint-free so they'll leave windows sparkling.

3. Protect China. Separate your good dishes by putting a coffee filter between each dish.

4. Filter broken cork from wine. If you break the cork when opening a wine bottle, filter the wine through a coffee filter.

5. Protect a cast-iron skillet. Place a coffee filter in the skillet to absorb moisture and prevent rust.

6. Apply shoe polish. Ball up a lint-free coffee filter.

7. Recycle frying oil. After frying, strain oil through a sieve lined with a coffee filter.

8. Weigh chopped foods. Place chopped ingredients in a coffee filter on a kitchen scale.

9. Hold tacos. Coffee filters make convenient wrappers for messy foods.

10. Stop the soil from leaking out of a plant pot. Line a plant pot with a coffee filter to prevent
the soil from going through the drainage holes.

11. Prevent a Popsicle from dripping. Poke one or two holes as needed in a coffee filter.

12. Do you think we used expensive strips to wax eyebrows? Use strips of coffee filters.

13. Put a few in a plate and put your fried bacon, French fries, chicken fingers, etc on them.
Soaks out all the grease.

14. Keep in the bathroom. They make great "razor nick fixers."

OH YEAH AND THEY ARE GREAT TO USE IN YOUR COFFEE MAKERS

P.S  Buy them at the dollar store-they are cheaper!!!

Did you know that bread is delivered fresh to the stores five days a week? Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Each day has a different color twist tie.
Monday = Blue,
Tuesday = Green,
Thursday = Red
Friday = White
Saturday = Yellow.
So if today was Thursday, you would want red twist tie; not white which is Fridays (almost a week old)! The colors go alphabetically by color Blue- Green - Red - White - Yellow, Monday through Saturday. Very easy to remember. I thought this was interesting. I looked in the grocery store and the bread wrappers DO have different twist ties, and even the ones with the plastic clips have different colors. You learn something new everyday! Enjoy fresh bread when you buy bread with the right color on the day you are shopping.

Don't forget Gatorade for Migraine Headaches. PowerAde won't work. Pass this information on to friends so they can be informed.

Also spraying Listerine Mouthwash outdoors in the area where you are sitting will deter the mosquitos and other pests.

I received this in an email and thought it was good enough to share:

Peroxide VS Bleach

This was written by Becky Ransey of Indiana (a doctor's wife), and I want to share it with you..  She was over recently for coffee and smelled the bleach I was using to clean my toilet and countertops.  This is what she told me:

"I would like to tell you of the benefits of that plain little ole bottle of 3% peroxide you can get for under $1.00 at any drug store.  What does bleach cost?  My husband has been in the medical field for over 36 years, and most doctors don't tell you about peroxide.>   "Have you ever smelled bleach in a doctor's office?  NO!!!  Why?  Because it smells, and it is not healthy!  Ask the nurses who work in the doctor's offices, and ask them if they use bleach at home.  They are wiser and know better!
"Did you also know bleach was invented in the late
40's?  It's chlorine, folks!  And it was used to kill our troops.

"Peroxide was invented during WWI.  It was used to save and help
cleanse the needs of our troops and hospitals.

Please think about this:

1. Take one capful (the little white cap that comes with
the bottle) and hold in your mouth for 10 minutes daily,
then spit it out.  (I do it when I bathe.)  No more canker
sores, and your teeth will be whiter without expensive
pastes. Use it instead of mouthwash!

2. Let your toothbrushes soak in a cup of peroxide to
keep them free of germs.

3. Clean your counters and table tops with peroxide to
kill germs and leave a fresh smell.  Simply put a little on
your dishrag when you wipe, or spray it on the counters.

4. After rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour peroxide on it to kill salmonella and other bacteria.

5. I had fungus on my feet for years until I sprayed a
50/50 mixture of peroxide and water on them (especially the
toes) every night and let dry.

6. Soak any infections or cuts in 3% peroxide for five to
ten minutes several times a day.  My husband has seen
gangrene that would not heal with any medicine but was
healed by soaking in peroxide.

7. Fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of peroxide
and water and keep it in every bathroom to disinfect without
harming your septic system like bleach or most other disinfectants will.

8. Tilt your head back and spray into nostrils with your
50/50 mixture whenever you have a cold, plugged sinus.  It
will bubble and help to kill the bacteria.  Hold for a few minutes, and then blow your nose into a tissue.

9. If you have a terrible toothache and cannot get to a
dentist right away, put a capful of 3% peroxide into your
mouth and hold it for ten minutes several times a day.  The
pain will lessen greatly.

10. Put half a bottle of peroxide in your bath to help rid boils, fungus, or other skin infections.

11. You can also add a cup of peroxide instead of bleach
to a load of whites in your laundry to whiten them.  If there is blood on clothing, pour it directly on the soiled spot.  Let it sit for a minute, then rub it and rinse with cold water.  Repeat if necessary.

12. I use peroxide to clean my mirrors.  There is no smearing, which is why I love it so much for this.

"I could go on and on...  It is a little brown bottle no home should be without!

"With prices of most necessities rising, I'm glad there's a way to save tons of money in such a simple, healthy manner!" This information really woke me up.  I hope you gain something from it, too.

How many of these did YOU know about?

   A sealed envelope - Put in the freezer for a few hours, then slide a
   knife under the flap.  The envelope can then be resealed.  (hmmmmmm..)
                                               ============
   Use Empty toilet paper roll to store appliance cords.  It keeps them
   neat and you can write on the roll what appliance it belongs to.
                          ============
   For icy door steps in freezing temperatures:get warm water and put
   Dawn dish washing liquid in it.  Pour it all over the steps.  They wont
   refreeze. (wish I had known this for the last 40 years!)
                          ============
  To remove old wax from a glass candle holder, put it in the freezer for
  a few hours.  Then take the candle holder out and turn it upside down.
   The wax will fall out.
                          ============
  Crayon marks on walls?  This worked wonderfully!  A damp rag, dipped
  in baking soda.  Comes off with little effort (elbow grease that is!).
                          ============
  Permanent marker on appliances/counter tops (like store receipt
  BLUE!) rubbing alcohol on paper towel.
                           ============
  Whenever I purchase a box of S.O.S Pads, I immediately take a pair of
  scissors and cut each pad into halves.  After years of having to throw
  away rusted and unused and smelly pads, I finally decided that this would
  be much more economical.  Now a box of S.O.S  pads last me indefinitely!
  In fact, I have noticed that the scissors get sharpened this way!
                                              ============
  Blood stains on clothes?  Not to worry!  Just pour a little hydrogen
  peroxide on a cloth and proceed to wipe off every drop of blood.  Works
  every time!  (Now, where to put the body?)    LOL
                          ============
  Use vertical strokes when washing windows outside and horizontal
