I have told some of you that it is a good idea to use the Firefox browser. I decided to start this thread to tell some of the reasons for that suggestion.
One of my favorite features on Firefox is tabbed browsing. With tabbed browsing when you want to open more then one webpage at a time you do not have to open another window. Each page can be open in its own tab so that when you want to go back to that page all you have to do is to click on its tab. Below is what the tabs look like. In this image there are four pages open with the one for the Briarpatch being the page that is currently selected.

I am on dial up so I can't access the internet using Firefox ....I don't think. I downloaded it sometime ago but haven't been able to figure out what to do with it...haven't spent a lot of time on it but still not jumping up at me. One of our sons in law uses it quite a bit so when he is next around I will ask him how to use it with my current set up.

It should be able to detect your internet settings automatically. At least that is what happened most of the time in my experience. I remember that I liked the tabbed browsing when I was on dailup because I could load one page in a tab and then look at another one while I was waiting for it to download.

If you are afraid to change your browser there is an option to keep using Internet Explorer and still have tabbed browsing. It is called Maxathon. It will add some features like tabbed Browsing to Internet Explorer. http://www.maxthon.com/

One of the best things about Firefox is that you can add extensions that give extra functionality to your browser. I have made a short tutorial about adding extensions to Firefox that is here. http://thebriarpatch.ecillinois.com/index.php?pid=7One extension that I like is Forecastfox. It adds, the current temperture, forecasts, storm warnings, and radar images to your browser. You can see some of the information at the bottom of your browser.

I have firefox open and have moved around in it but I don't get the tab option yet. I will go back in there and move around some more. You are right, it picks up my info from my provider.
I figured out how to find the tab thing. Moving right along. I am not really backward, I am trainable. Just takes awhile on this kind of thing.

It took me a while to figure it out too. I used to wonder why some people were always going on about tabbed browsing. Now it is a feature I wouldn't want to be without.
You can also drag those tabs into a different order and do a lot of other things with them.

I always use that tab feature, I usually always have AAD on one tab, the Briarpatch on another, and am using a 3rd as well............
I will have to look into some of the other features......
I remember I made a mistake one time in using AOL, and I still used another browser, was I hooked up online, I simply brought the other browser up, and used it...

I do the same thing with keeping pages that I look at often open in other tabs. You can also change the way that your browser looks by changing the themes. It works pretty much the same way as adding extensions. Just click on themes in tools and you will be taken to the themes site.

This video will show you how to install and use the noscript extension in Firefox. The noscript extension lets you allow or not allow sites to use javascript. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKW5SMvMKtY
