Food service workers are suppose to wear gloves to protect the public from germs.  As a member of the medical profession I tend to take an interest when I order food from a Deli and watch the person waiting on me both prepare my food and do other chores with the same gloves on.  I witnessed one today pick up a pencil, log something in a book, take handfuls of a product out of a bag and place it in a fryer, prepare a box of chicken and use the digital scales all with the same gloved hand.  Oh, and she wiped that gloved hand on the front of her dirty apron.....

I would much rather see a handwashing sink and paper towels in the area where frequent handwashing could be done than to have someone don a glove when they report for duty and wear that same glove thought the day no matter what they do.

I have yet to see an employee anywhere I go use proper aseptic technique, so to say that the gloves were misused would be a fair statement.  I doubt that those employees have had training as far as the purpose for the gloves goes.

Sitting in a boardroom or office somewhere writing up rules and regulations for employees and then turning those employees loose without proper training in the use of the equipment and the reasons for the regulations is not too smart on behalf of the companies that run food service organizations.  They are not by any stretch of the imagination protecting the public.......

just ran into that same scene very recently.  Went home preaching to my husband about the gloved hand 'handling' money, pencils, cash box, telephone, door to kitchen, boxed food for take out, etc. It was a Chinese Restaurant and I was there for carry out.

What about the fast food chain that has the cashiers making your drinks. Hands(no gloves) that are contaminated with dirty money that handle the ice scoop the falls down into the ice each time. OMG! and we wonder why we get sick. Talk about cross contamination!

Exactly !!!  Something else that really bugs me, is when you order a drink and they slide the empty cup rim side down across the dirty counter or pick it up by the rim with their dirty hands !    BangHead

It bugs me to go to a restaurant and have the waitress carry dirty glasses with her fingers inside the glasses then bring your silverware to the table without washing her hands.....I think there is a lot of room for some one to teach  good aseptic technique classes for food service workers.
