Sauerkraut was created 300 years before Christ in China. It was used to feed workers on the Great Wall. Sauerkraut was brought to Europe by the Tartars.

I can remember as a kid my mom used to cook hot dogs with sauerkraut................... .and the kraut was made in a crock in the basement!
I know you could tell from a distance when it was being cooked.....  It sure makes a hit when I have a bowl of it available on nights when we serve hot dogs at church.

Today I printed out two entire sections from the Recipes' thread and am going to find the time to cut them to fit recipe cards. I am going to start cooking again. Usually have already started by this time in November!

I hate sauerkraut but have a fresh bag in the refrigerator cause my husband likes it once in awhile with kielbasa. That is the kind of thing I will take with me to Chicago when we go for the wedding.  We will have a sort of suite with a kitchen and will probably get asked to leave!  But I know my kids and other relatives will appreciate crock pots full of good food while they are there.

We have Dish Network also.  I think most of the same programming is on Cable.  Whenever they are showing reruns on regular TV, we will watch those kinds of programs on the Food channel or Discovery, etc.  It's really interesting to see how things came about or how things are manufactured.

I try not to watch too many of those cooking shows........................ .......

They just make me hungry !  cheesy

I think I've seen her on another show as a guest, can't remember which one.  I do like to watch professionals cook.  They do it so effortlessly that it almost makes you think you could do it.  We tend to fix the same things week after week, never trying anything different.

We have the Food Network here and I love to watch it too.  Paula is my favorite too, good ole southern cooking. I made her gooey butter cake a few years ago for Thanksgiving and it was wonderful. Oooh I'm putting on pounds just thinking about it. Will have to dig up that recipe to post.   smiley

my daughter had her recipe for gooey butter cake and made it on Thanksgiving.  She called to tell me the ingredients she needed. Then she came to my house to make it! It was really good.

Paula is one of my favorites too and the Gooey Butter Cake is always a hit at church.  I don't know if the recipe I have is hers but it's a good one.....
